SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Kattankulathur has established SRM Innovation Incubation & Entrepreneurship Centre (SIIEC) to promote and encourage all startup related activity on campus. SIIEC aims to attract, encourage and incubate all entrepreneurship related activities amongst the students, faculty and alumni of SRM IST. SIIEC works with the stakeholders to advance to the next level of success.

One of the primary goals of this centre is to work in close collaboration with the industry to deliver commercial technology and products and build a vibrant innovation ecosystem by providing a reliable platform for technology-based start-ups and entrepreneurs.

Position: Business Development Manager SIIEC (1 position)

Qualifications: Post graduate degree with at least 5 years’ experience in the Incubation / Startups ecosystem

Deliverables

  • Identify and select potential incubatees/startups for the incubation program.
  • Analyze financial statements, forecasts, and funding requirements of each potential startup.
  • Define, build, and finalize client agreements.
  • Assist startups in the areas of strategy, business plan development, market analysis, company registrations.
  • Understand requirements of startups and build a mentoring relationship through the mentor pool.
  • Define deliverables, their timelines and monitor progress of startups
  • Develop and maintain relationships with investors, Government bodies, service companies
  • Promote SRM IIEC to attract the best startups and help build and shape the brand image
  • Ability to independently lead and execute projects
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic start-up environment
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Remuneration will be decided based on experience, network, and prospective value addition to the Centre.

Position:  Engineering Associate (5 positions)

The EA will provide engineering support and assistance to all those who wish to utilize the SIIEC’s facilities (Fablab and Design Centre)

Qualifications: Diploma/ Degree in engineering & technology or equivalent with at least 2 years’ experience

Deliverables

  1. Primary Duties
  • To help/assist a team of students or faculties, who wants to design and fabricate the prototype at SIIEC Facilities (Fablab & Design Centre).
  • Maintain Fablab & Design Centre facilities & infrastructure (equipment, machinery, buildings, control systems, etc.).
  • Design and develop organizational policies and procedures relevant to delivering services & support efficiently.
  • Oversee the coordination of lab space, lab tool installations, and facilities expansion.
  • Responsible for creating and managing lab facilities services occupational safety and environmental compliance programs per Institutional policies.
  • Create a safe and inclusive work environment for all members
  1. Training
  • Regularly conduct training program for Fablab & Design Centre members on the available machines.
  • Create structure project-based learning modules for Fablab & Design Centre members.
  1. Maintenance of Machines and General Housekeeping
  • Follow SIX Sigma principle in all operations at Fablab & Design Centre.
  • Clean and maintain Fablab & Design Centre, periodically.
  • As per need, schedule service of machines periodically.
  • Everyday cleaning and Lubricating machines and its accessories.
  1. Inventory Management
  • Keep an updated inventory of Fablab & Design Centre’s equipment and supplies
  • Track outgoing and incoming equipment and supplies.
  • Order supplies as needed, Update coordinator.
  1. Fablab & Design Centre Scheduling and Events
  • Monitor Fablab & Design Centre’s time, breaks, lunch, accurate time reporti
  • Assist in the organization and planning of Fablab & Design Centre’s events.
  1. Reporting | Data Maintenance
  • Maintain a comprehensive activity database including the number of members served.
  • Assist Fablab & Design Centre’s coordinator in the preparation of event reports and annual reports.

Position: Communications & Public Relations Officer (1 Position)

The Communications Officer is an integral member of IIEC Business Development Team. The Officer will use all forms of media and communications to build, maintain and manage awareness of IIEC’s work. The Officer will be expected to help create and communicate key messages to defined target audiences to establish and maintain goodwill for RI.

Qualifications: Diploma/ Degree in engineering & technology or equivalent with at least 2 years’ experience

Deliverables 

Communications

  • Develop a stakeholder management process by creating and maintaining a contact database and a communication plan that targets key stakeholder groups.
  • Advise on internal communication tools and, when required, coordinate internal communication events.
  • Regularly solicit stories, and notable developments or achievements to the news media. Manage messaging to external parties, including talking points, media kits, and media training for staff.
  • Support media relations, public engagement and marketing initiatives such as online advertising, speakers bureau, spokesperson research and media outreach
  • Assist with development of promotional materials, including Annual Report, press kits and other program-related collateral
  • Support fund raising campaigns, event planning and management
  • Identify promotional opportunities that are both strategic and creative

Social Media

  • Own all relevant social media platforms to generate brand growth and positive sentiment for the organization, as well as being tasked with creating new, innovative and talk-worthy content to drive awareness and engagement
  • Produce online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action
  • Develop and implement a strategic social media/marketing/communications plan to advance SIIEC’s brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities and increase the visibility of its programs across key audiences
  • Develop and implement integrated social media strategy to achieve goals including: traffic generation, donor base growth, community activation, positive sentiment, exposure, etc.
  • Recommend new social media tools, sites, and applications as part of the social media mix
  • Be ahead of all the emerging social and mobile trends.

 Branding

  • Develop, implement, a strategic communications plan to advance SIIEC’s brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities and increase the visibility of its programs across key audiences
  • Serve as social media editor-in-chief and social media “brand voice”–set guidelines in line with industry best practices for social media and share those guidelines with all contributors retaining final sign-off/approval of all posts
  • Develop social media policies, best practices, and contributor training programs to ensure SIIEC’s meets or exceeds industry best practices and advances its brand goals
  • UG/PG in communications, Journalism, or other related fields
  • Five years of relevant work experience with demonstrated skills in communications and public relations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous media relations experience and proven ability to cultivate relationships with regional and national press
  • Previous experience in event coordination or management
  • Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator a plus

Position: Product Designer (1 Position)

A product designer is responsible for the design and development of consumer products. Duties of this position include improving existing product designs and analyzing working concepts launched by competitors of similar products to match quality and performance. Depending on the industry and company, product designers may progress to a senior, executive or managerial role.

A bachelor’s degree is often required with the focus varying according to the industry. Relevant work experience is preferred and successful candidates often possess a strong knowledge of computer assisted design (CAD) and excellent concept to launch capabilities. Other beneficial skills include good research and competitor analysis skills and an understanding of industry trends and market conditions. Due to the nature of the work, the physical ability to sit for long hours in front of a computer every day is required.

Qualifications for Product Designer

  • Relevant work experience as a product designer is preferred
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent eye for aesthetic design and customer appeal
  • Good understanding of color science and combinations
  • Artistic and innovative flair

Deliverables

  • Create design concepts and drawings to determine the best product
  • Suggest improvements to design and performance to product engineers
  • Employ design concepts into functional prototypes
  • Perform research on product technologies and structures to implement into design concepts
  • Maintain up to date on current industry trends and market conditions
  • Coordinate with designers to ensure accurate communication and efficiency in the design phase
  • Modify and revise existing designs to meet customer expectations
  • Present product ideas to relevant team members for brainstorming

Position:  Graphic Designer SIIEC (1 Position)

The job description includes the entire process of defining requirements, visualizing, and creating graphics including illustrations, logos, layouts, and photos to shape the visual aspects of websites, newsletter, brochures, and other publicity material.

The graphics should capture the attention of those who see them and communicate the right message. Must have a creative flair and a strong ability to translate requirements into design. Ability to communicate well and work methodically as part of a team. The goal is to inspire and attract the target audience.

Qualification

  • Proven graphic designing experience
  • A strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics
  • Familiarity with design software and technologies (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop)
  • A keen eye for aesthetics and details
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines
  • Degree in Design, Fine Arts or related field is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Study design briefs and determine requirements
