Title of the Research Project: “Chemical synthesis of post-translationally modified amyloid beta peptides and their implications to Alzheimer’s disease”

Responsibilities and Duties

The candidate will be get an wonderful opportunity to learn and execute organic synthesis, solid phase peptide synthesis, isolation, characterization of beta amyloid peptides with various site specific PTMs. This work is jointly executed with Prof. T. Govindaraju, JNCASR Bangalore. The candidate will also get opportunities to work in Prof. T. Govindarju’s lab. Extensive invitro studies with the obtained peptides will be executed.

Eligibility: First class M.Tech. in Biotechnology/Nanotechnology/Chemical Engineering or M.Sc. in Zoology/Botany/Biochemistry/Marine Biotechnology/Materials chemistry with knowledge in isolation of anti-viral compounds from marine or plant resources, colloid chemistry, Layer-by-Layer assembly and in-vitro cell line experiments. GATE/CSIR/NET qualified candidates are preferable.

Fellowship: 16,000 per month + 20% HRA (for first 2 years) and 18,000 per month + 20% HRA (for 3rd year)

Project Duration: 3 Years

Travel Allowance: No TA will be provided

Applications are invited for Senior Research Fellow position under IGCAR funded project titled “Ecological studies at Kalpakkam coastal waters with special emphasis on phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthic organisms, and bacterial diversity” at Center for Environmental Nuclear Research, Directorate of Research, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur.

Qualification: M.Sc.. or Ph.D. (Zoology, Marine Biology. Marine Science. Microbiology. with or without experience).

Experience: Candidates should have the knowledge in water and sediment sampling from the sea and must be familiar in the identification of marine phytoplankton, zooplankton, and microbes (bacteria, fungi & actinomycetes). The candidate should have the expertise in the analysis of physico chemical parameters of marine water and sediments including heavy metals and radionuclides.
